Domestic Gas Managed Learning Programme (MLP)

Train to be a Domestic Gas Engineer

KER Training Ltd offers Domestic Gas MLP (Managed Learning Programme) training courses in our accredited LCL Awards Training Centre based in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire minutes from the M8 motorway.

Our courses are held in our modern and well-equipped fully functional training centre with equipment supplied by Worcester Bosch, Ideal Heating, Daikin, Adey and Polypipe who we work in Partnership with and this Partnership ensures that we have the latest equipment available in our centre.

Our fully qualified Trainers and Assessors have a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked in the gas industry for many years.  Their teaching methods along with their expert knowledge and skills together with your hard work and dedication to the course will help you to become a fully competent Gas Engineer in the industry.

For those with limited experience looking to become Gas Installers the LCL Awards Managed Learning Programme (MLP) is a recognised entry route to the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS), a training programme designed to meet the requirements for Category 2 & 3 entrants for gas as detailed in ACS Guidance Note 8 and 8A of IGEM.

What to expect

To learn a trade allows you the opportunity to achieve a skill for life and with a shortage of Skilled Workers, Tradespeople i.e. Gas Engineers are in high demand.  We offer MLP either on a full time or part time basis.

Both MLP courses consists of centre based guided learning hours and ‘on the job’ guided learning hours gained whilst under the supervision of a registered Gas Safe Installer acting as the candidate’s mentor.  The candidate is required to fully complete their individual portfolio and the required learning hours for the course in order for a Training Completion Certificate to be issued.

The course starts with an introduction to Gas, Basic Plumbing, Electrics and Health & Safety.  It involves a mixture of theory and practical training, assessments which are both written and practical and an individual portfolio with records of their evidence of training.  With hard work, commitment and dedication from both you and us we can help you achieve the best opportunity to pass the assessments.

The Domestic MLP course is an entry route into the following Industry Sectors:-

Domestic Natural Gas    -    Liquid Petroleum Gas   -   Non-Domestic Heating    -    Commercial Catering

New candidates will be trained and assessed in the following areas:-

  • Gas Safety Regulations
  • Combustion
  • Tightness testing and purging
  • Ventilation
  • Chimneys
  • Controls
  • Unsafe situation procedures
  • Domestic pipework installations
  • Cenwat

All complete

On completion of your Domestic MLP course your MLP portfolio will be checked and verified by our Assessors and Internal Verifiers.

Once the MLP portfolio has been approved you will be issued with your Training Completion Certificate.  Once you have received your Certificate you will then progress onto the Domestic Gas CCN1 & appliances initial course which is the Gas qualification and also a pre-requisite of becoming a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

Once you have gained the qualification you can apply to the Gas Safe Register, application to the Gas Safe Register is for yourself to either work for yourself i.e. own business or as an approved operative for a Gas Safe Registration Company.  It is an annual renewal and the fees are paid direct to the Gas Safe Register.

The ACS/CCN1 Gas qualification must be renewed every 5 years and this involves a re-assessment for existing registered Gas Engineers.  We offer these re-assessments at our Centre.

    Barry Ferguson

"Cannot rate KER Training highly enough.  Highly experienced enthusiastic training staff, very efficiently run, and backed up with a modern well kitted facility. Completed the 4 day F-Gas training and left with sufficient depth of knowledge and understanding to now work on the refrigerant side of the heat pumps we have been installing over the last decade. Will definitely return for any future training needs. 5 stars."

    Imran Ali

"Frankie has been instrumental to helping me get qualified with his vast knowledge and experience of the field, also his detailed teach methods whereby not telling us answers to questions we have but getting us to think about again or taking us down to the training room with its vast range of appliance to work on and learn from."

    Gareth Docherty

"After speaking with Frankie and Stevie I knew it was the correct training centre for me. The facilities at the centre are excellent. The training I received at KER Training was exceptional, plenty of practical training which I feel is a must. No question was a silly question, they’ve heard them all. The course isn’t easy but they stick with you until you understand it. They go through your portfolio (which is the hardest part) with you, and mark any mistakes before being send off for certification"

    Wayne Bell

"Frankie is true professional who has an incredible depth of knowledge as well as a true gift with teaching and communicating. The course covered a lot but we never felt pressured or overwhelmed by it. All three of us gained a huge amount of knowledge and experience over the four days. Nothing was too much trouble, there was always time to ask as many questions as we needed to and the help we received was second to none."

    Danielle Durrans

"Thank you to Frankie and the team. I have to say the training was exceptional. Frankie pitches the training at just the right level, with clear explanations and guidance, making subjects which are quite complicated enjoyable to learn. Well done."

    Warren Price

"For me KER Training definitely was the right choice to complete the Gas Managed Learning Program. I took the part time course with little prior experience. Frankie and the team were honest and helpful from the start and made every effort to facilitate me through the training and the getting work placements along the way."

    Scott Galloway

"First class training, I would highly recommend to anyone. But for business owners I have found them excellent in not only the personal training but what they can offer your business and the willing to work around your commitment’s. Won’t look past them now. Thanks for your continued help Frankie & Elaine"

    Thomas Grundy

"I have just completed a 6 month full time MLP gas engineering course. After visiting a few training centres around Glasgow, nothing compared to the facilities at KER Training. They have many experienced engineers available for your placement who cover every aspect of heating from repairs, services, installs and plumbing. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the course start to finish."
